John leverages his experience and deep interdisciplinary background in technology, business and law to represent technology enabled companies.  Since 2001, John has been practicing law concentrating in the areas of intellectual property (trademark, copyright), technology development, privacy, cybersecurity, data protection, multimedia production, AI promotion & governance, advertising, incident response, and corporate general counsel advisory.

Preceding the introduction of the newest generation of federal, state and foreign efforts to regulate technology and data use (such as GDPR, CCPA, EU AI Act, PIPEDA, and NIST/ISO frameworks), John has been practicing law at the forefront of these regulatory regimes providing advisory services, compliance programs, and representation to companies that develop, use, and market cloud, data and emergent digital technologies. He assists companies in successfully navigating the contours of these regulatory, legislative, and agency landscapes.

For the last 14 years, John has served in roles as “General Counsel”, “Product and Privacy Counsel” and “Privacy Compliance Officer”  working for corporations. Prior to this corporate work, he served as “of counsel” and consulted with multiple private practice law firms on technology, privacy, and data security matters. To fully understand the details and nuances of emergent technology development, deployment, and promotion, John works “hands on” closely collaborating with digital/AI engineers, data scientists, cloud computing technologists, business development, and sales personnel.

Prior to practicing law, John worked for 22 years as a software engineer, data architect, and corporate technology manager. Starting in the aerospace industry, he architected and programed mission critical systems applied to satellite orbital mechanics, spacecraft navigation and air traffic control. He later worked as a data privacy compliance advisor in the pharmaceutical industry on marketing campaign and advertising development projects. His last technology role prior to practicing law was as a data and compliance architect in the development of ERP, CRM, and energy/commodity trading systems for the power industry.

John enjoys contributing his legal and technical expertise pro-bono to assist and mentor entrepreneurs and startups in the fields of cloud computing, AI technology, and multimedia production including the development of full feature film projects.
